Ms. Blair E. Wagner

Third Grade Teacher

As an adolescent, I struggled to understand the "why" and did not feel comfortable in such a rigid learning environment. Like many professionals in the field of education; there were a few teachers that inspired me to become an educator. Teachers who were captivating, hands on, personable, and engaging. Teachers who were able to see their students as a whole child. It was after they opened my eyes to an entirely different approach to learning that I knew what once was an early childhood aspiration had become something worth dedicating my life to. It was my mission, if only for a year, to show children the joy of learning and the sense of belonging they can feel in a classroom.

As an educator, I wholeheartedly believe that the classroom is a shared space of learning; where children and adults are open minded listeners who are willing to grow. To foster a learning environment of unity and teamwork I aim to break down the preconceived notion that any one individual is superior to another- regardless of age. This relationship between classmates and adults within the confines of the classroom is cultivated on the core values of kindness, respect, and accountability. My students are reminded regularly by means of positive reinforcement that I am their biggest cheerleader. Through their triumphs and tribulations, they are assured that their classmates and I are there for them. The loving sense of community that is nurtured within my classroom is the foundation of academic growth. By giving my students, a safe, compassionate, inviting space I am able to help them succeed socially, emotionally, academically, creatively, and cognitively.

Ms. Jacey Riana Sanchez

Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant – Special Education

Attending school in the Elizabeth Public School system (from 3rd grade through high school) provided me with an appreciation for diversity and the strengths of our amazing community. I had a wonderful educational experience, having had amazing teachers and mentors that saw my potential and encouraged my growth. My own father was a CST Social Worker in Elizabeth Public Schools. I saw the difference he made in the lives of the students and families he worked with and knew that I wanted to give back to the community in a similar manner.

Over the past 20 years, I have served EPS as an interventionist, first grade teacher, varsity gymnastics coach, intervention specialist, and now CST Learning Consultant. I have had great opportunities to learn from many amazing professionals and made connections with wonderful students and families, thereby achieving my goal!

As an LDT-C on the CST, I work in collaboration with other members of the Child Study Team to determine eligibility for special services. My responsibilities include evaluating students to determine learning difficulties, analyzing results to create a profile of student strengths and weaknesses, establishing and maintaining an appropriate program for children who have special learning needs, and consulting with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to provide strategies to assist pupils who are struggling academically.

I believe that it is my ability to balance educational needs with social-emotional support that makes me a good LDT-C. I have learned that, given the right environment, we can all feel inspired to reach our full potential. It is through creating this balanced environment, and supporting students, families, and team members, that I have been able to impact student success in my school.
