Autism Teacher

The decision to become a teacher came from a combination of personal experiences, a passion for helping others, and a deep belief in the power of education. There were several factors that led me to this path. Early on I was always curious and fascinated by new ideas and experiences. Whether it was from reading books, a classroom lecture, science experiment, or an interesting discussion topic with friends, I realized that learning was an intrinsic part of my life which eventually led me to unfold that teaching would be a path that I wanted to pursue. Throughout my path to becoming a teacher, I had the pleasure of reflecting on experiences with my previous educators, including elementary and high school teachers and university professors, who were influential in my process of becoming a teacher. My family, friends, colleagues, patients, and the children in my life were also all influencers. Honestly, probably everyone I have encountered in my lifetime has influenced me in some manner, whether it was in a minor or major way or in a negative or positive way. Knowing that I could play a role in making a difference in the lives of young people was another big motivator that led me to this profession. I think that everyone wants to make a difference in this world in some special way; for most people, it is through their talents or the things they do best. For musicians, it is through their music; poets or writers make a difference by the way they express their words and stories, and for educators, it could simply be the way they care for their students and their community.

My personal feelings on being a special education teacher are rooted in the belief that every student, regardless of their abilities or challenges, has the potential to learn, grow, and contribute to society meaningfully. As a special education teacher, one of the most important elements is to recognize each student’s strengths and challenges. However, rather than focus on any deficit, I find it is more crucial to focus on the students’ strengths, build on them, and empower students to overcome obstacles, with support, creativity, and dedication.

An outstanding teacher, whether they be in special or general education, should have a combination of special traits such as being able to differentiate lessons which ensure that students feel valued and included, conducting ongoing assessments to adjust teaching method, and being patient and kind. More crucially, to be considered excellent in education, I feel that educators should own a combination of special attributes such as empathy, flexibility, adaptability, and expertise in their area. In my eyes, these traits are the foundational elements that create an outstanding teacher and are the qualities that I strive for.

Personal Assistant

Choosing to be a Personal Assistant at Elizabeth Public Schools, the same district from which I graduated, was influenced by my deep connection to the community and my desire to give back to the school system that played a significant role in my education. Having firsthand experience as a student in the district, I understand the challenges and opportunities within the school environment, which motivates me to contribute meaningfully to its success. My familiarity with the district's values, diverse student population, and commitment to academic excellence further inspired me to take on this role. Additionally, the opportunity to support educators, staff, and students in a setting that shaped my own educational journey allows me to make a direct impact and help create a positive learning environment for future generations.

As a Personal Assistant at Elizabeth Public Schools, my responsibilities include providing support to students, educators and staff, assisting with classroom organization, and ensuring smooth daily routines. I help manage schedules, prepare materials, monitor student behavior, and provide one-on-one instruction to students. What makes me exceptional in this role is my strong organizational skills, adaptability, and commitment to fostering a positive and efficient learning environment. I directly impact student success by assisting teachers in maintaining a structured classroom, providing individual support to students who need extra guidance, and helping to create a welcoming and organized school environment where students can focus on learning and achieving their goals.
