Grade 3

What influenced me to become a teacher was experiencing the positive influence a special teacher had on my younger sister when she was struggling academically. That teacher took the extra step and gave my sister the extra attention and time she needed. She made a positive influence on my sister’s life and future. From then on, I wanted to also make a positive influence in the lives of children.

I believe that my greatest contribution besides fostering a love of learning, is my ability to make connections with students beyond academics but a personal and emotional connection. I wanted to make a difference in my community by making a positive difference in students’ lives.

I have been a part of the Elizabeth education community for twenty-three years. I began my teaching career at Theodore Roosevelt School No. 17 in the 1998-1999 school year as a fourth-grade teacher. I then taught third grade at Victor Mravlag School No. 21 and at the current Chessie Dentley Roberts Academy School No. 30 before moving on to Dr. Antonia Pantoja School No. 27. I strive to foster a love of learning, to make connections with students that go beyond academics, and to make personal and emotional connections. My goal is to make a difference in our community by making a positive difference in all my students’ lives.

School Nurse

After receiving my Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Seton Hall University, I worked on a CCIS floor in a child and adolescent psychiatric and behavioral unit as well as the children’s crisis unit within the same hospital before transitioning into school nursing. I later went on to receive my school nurse certification from William Paterson University and have worked in the Elizabeth Public Schools District for several years.

I have been the school nurse at my current school, Dr. Antonia Pantoja School No. 27, since 2019 and have seen now more than ever just how pivotal a role school nurses play in the physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being of students which is so vital to their learning. I am so grateful to be part of a school community within the Elizabeth Public Schools.
