Veronica Simoes Araujo

Grade 6 Mathematics

The greatest factors that influenced me to become a teacher were wanting to make a difference, my love for children as well as my passion for math. Growing up math always came easy to me, and I wanted to be able to share my love for math with others. I knew by becoming a teacher I had to have an open mind and know different ways to solve specific problems. Not all students learn the same way so having multiple learning styles allows students to better understand the skills at hand. There is no greater feeling as a teacher than when a student has that " ah-ha" "got it" or the "light bulb turning on" moment in your class.

I encourage students to ask questions, to correct mistakes when they see them. I let them know it is okay to question me, their teacher or to correct me when I am wrong as I am human and make mistakes. I am willing to learn things from my students as they might know a different approach to solve a problem that will benefit other students as well.

To my students past, present, or future and students around the world I would like to remind you to always stay focused and do your best. Never be afraid to ask a question, or to be wrong, learn and grow from your mistakes.
