Alison Tears

Grade 5

My parent’s drive and motivation always inspired me to follow my dreams and strive for excellence. Very early on I was influenced by another family member, my cousin.  Although, older than me, we had a bond and I wanted to be just like her.  When she decided to go into education I watched and listened, and I knew that was what I wanted to do.  When I was in 5th grade, she was my substitute teacher, and that experience solidified my goal – to be an educator.  Now, we advise each other, we continue to learn from each other, and our bond as family and educators is stronger than ever.

My style of teaching is a result of my teaching goals and professional mission statement. I strive to create an atmosphere of mutual respect in my learning community. In addition, I instill a safe, positive, nurturing, and supportive environment in my classroom as well as in my school, where all stakeholders’ ideas and thoughts are welcome. I have high standards and expectations for all of my students regardless of pre-conceived barriers and I encourage each of my students to be their personal best. Intrinsically, they need to know that they did their best, I want my students to know that they are individuals with great talents and that the world needs them to share their unique talents.

Teaching in the best of times takes grit, dedication, and a willingness to go far above and beyond what is expected. The children are the heart and soul of education, they are what everyone works for, they are the ones who puts a smile on everyone’s faces. It is our individual responsibility to create and foster a culture of mutual-respect and kindness.  Treat others the way that you want others to treat you.
