Board of Education President Iliana Chevres Visits Elizabeth High School–Frank J. Cicarell 9th Grade Academy

Frank J. Cicarell (FJC) 9th Grade Academy welcomed board president Iliana Chevres on Tuesday, March 7, 2023.

Mrs. Chevres initiated her school tour by visiting Mr. Sedano’s World History class where she was presented with a piece of art work created by students which read, “EPS- love grows here”. She then proceeded to Mr. Dral’s World History class where Mrs. Chevres shared her role within the learning community and encouraged students to reach out to her with concerns as they are the beating hearts of our schools.

Mrs. Chevres visited an Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science Principles classroom where students cultivate their understanding of coding through examining, creating, and testing code as they explore concepts. Mrs. Chevres was able to see how students integrate abstraction into coding their own program applications. Their instructor, Ms. Saporito, displays the QR codes to the students’ application on a bulletin board for all the students and staff members in the school to see the amazing work completed by her students.

Mrs. Chevres also engaged with Mrs. Garcia’s Health classroom where students were conducting oral presentations about healthy relationships. Mrs. Chevres shared words of wisdom in relation to the topic students had the opportunity to ask questions about her role in the learning community and her vision for the Elizabeth Public Schools. Mrs. Garcia voiced how remarkable it is to have a woman serving as our Board of Education president.

Mrs. Chevres concluded her school tour by joining an EPS video project for Women’s History Month in which freshmen students were voicing the important contributions of women to the advancement of our society. Thank you, Mrs. Chevres, for enlightening our students with your knowledge and expertise.
