Elizabeth Athletics Celebrated Senior Night
Elizabeth Athletics celebrated Senior Night at the Thomas G. Dunn Sports Center on February 1 as the Elizabeth Minutemen took on the Plainfield Cardinals. Senior varsity boys basketball players and cheerleaders were both honored during Senior Night. The seniors celebrated from the basketball team included Jasear Haney, Robinson Joseph, Augustine McGee, and Isaiah Pittman while the cheerleaders recognized included Ana Bonilla, Vaulandy Dupont, Kaitty Lopez, Nyla Louis, Jaclyn Michaud, Alice Peris, Shakyrah Taylor, and Lamiyah Washingto
Among the man fans there to support the Minutemen basketball team and the cheerleaders were City of Elizabeth Mayor J. Christian Bollwage, Elizabeth Board of Education President Iliana Chevres, and Board member Jerry Jacobs.
The Minutemen went on to defeat Plainfield 60-36 to claim the 2022-2023 Union County Conference – Watchung Division Championship. Elizabeth had a dominant second quarter, outscoring Plainfield 21-3, to give themselves early breathing room that they would maintain for the rest of the game. London Carson led all scorers with 16 points while Jordan Torres (11) and Jaden Barnett (10) also scored in double-figures for the Minutemen.
