    Dwyer 9th Grade Academy

     

    Students enrolled in the John E. Dwyer Technology Academy ( JEDTA), in addition to completing a rigorous college preparatory program, will also be given the opportunity   to   explore   careers   in   areas   such   as   computer   science,   architectural   design, and

    engineering. Honors and Advanced Placement classes will be offered to all interested students. Students enrolled in JEDTA have a school issued laptop for their daily instruction.

     

    John E. Dwyer Technology Academy ( JEDTA) is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and supports student readiness for college as an AVID “Highly Certified Site” through the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program. The AVID program features specialized academic support and preparation for college and university entrance and study. Students are encouraged to participate in challenging academic   courses   to   develop   the   knowledge   and   vital   skills   for   college-level study.

     

    Each John E. Dwyer Technology Academy student will be given the opportunity to participate in one of these strands of study offered:

    • NAF Academy of Engineering strand - students prepare for careers in engineering using Project Lead the Way’s Pathway to Engineering Curriculum. NAF’s Academy of Engineering answers an acute need for engineers by educating high school students in the principles of engineering, digital electronics as well as civil engineering and architecture. In addition to working on collaborative course projects, students gain knowledge through work-based learning activities including job shadowing events, competitions, mock interviews, career success workshops, job opportunities and paid internships for qualified
      • NAF Academy of Information Technology strand - students prepare for careers in digital programming, digital video production, web design, IT management,

    digital networks, and other areas in the expanding digital workplace. AOIT curricula engages students through a series of career exploration courses with an emphasis on strengthening literacy, project management, leadership, and team building skills while fostering creativity and innovation.

    • New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) Pre-Engineering Program – a rigorous program of mathematics, science, and technology courses providing students hands-on experiences to enable them to connect what they learn in school to different branches         of engineering. Students receive college credits upon successful completion of the NJIT
    • CISCO - provides high school students the opportunity to gain invaluable skills in the field of information technology. In the program, students follow a structured learning path, rich in theory and hands-on hardware experience that is current with today’s standards in technology. These skills align with post-secondary institutions and students have the opportunity to leave with an industry recognized
