    9th Grade at Charles W. Harris Academy

     

     

    The Thomas A. Edison Career and Technical Academy’s programs are designed to provide a high degree of academic rigor as well as prepare students to learn a skilled trade. In addition to coursework in their chosen field of study,

    students will complete a rigorous college preparatory curriculum that includes classes in English, mathematics, science, social studies, and world languages. Honors and Advanced Placement courses will be offered to all interested students, as well as dual enrollment for some courses. Students are required to take a full course schedule and will have a school issued laptop for their daily instruction.

    Each Thomas A. Edison Career & Technical Academy student will be given the opportunity to participate in one of the five strands of study offered:

      • Construction Technology prepares students for a career in construction trades, such as carpentry, and teaches students the methods and equipment used to build structures.
      • Electricity/Sustainable Energy prepares students for career success in “green” residential and commercial construction, project management, energy efficiency, trade specialties, and building safety and inspection.
      • Process Technology prepares students for a career in manufacturing in areas such as oil exploration and production, pharmaceuticals, power generation, and refining and wastewater treatment.
      • Automotive Technology prepares students for the latest in automotive diagnostics, mechanics, operations, and collision repair.
      • Hospitality and Retail Services prepares students to enter into the management and marketing fields, sales, customer service,

    entrepreneurship, restaurant management, food service and personal care services (cosmetology and barbering).

     

    To support students’ readiness for career and technical education, students enrolled in selected career and technical education courses are eligible to receive New Jersey State Certification in barbering and/or cosmetology , National Automotive Technicians Education Training Certification (NATEF), Servsafe certification for food services and other career and technical education certifications.
