    Admiral William F. Halsey, Jr. Health & Public Safety Academy

    Halsey 9th Grade Academy

     

    Students enrolled in the Admiral William F. Halsey, Jr. Health & Public Safety Academy, in addition to completing a rigorous college preparatory program, will also participate in exciting programs, electives, classes, and activities that focus

    on the development of each student into a skilled, vibrant, contributing member of their community. Opportunities for learning through active participation in the community will be emphasized. Honors, Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Enrollment classes will be offered to all interested students. Students enrolled in the academy are required to take a full course schedule and will have a school issued laptop for their daily instruction.

     

    Each Adm. William F. Halsey, Jr. Health & Public Safety Academy student will be given the opportunity to participate in one of the three strands of study offered:

        • Public Safety prepares students with a rich curriculum in law enforcement, fire sciences, emergency management (EMT), criminal justice, and Homeland Security. Students will be challenged to achieve through learning experiences in various public safety settings. Forensic science, chemistry and statistics will be taught through “hands-on” planned projects.
        • Health Sciences prepares students for a career in patient care, nursing, radiology, medicine technology, and healthcare administration. Additional opportunities in Physical Therapy, Athletic Training and nutrition will also be available to students. Our Allied Health Careers program of studies will expose students to a variety of health care careers through classroom and clinical experiences at Trinitas Regional Medical Center. Students can earn college credit while in Halsey Academy through an articulation agreement with Rutgers University.
        • Military Leadership students will participate in the school’s highly respected Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (MCJROTC). ROTC students are able to participate in the program’s award-winning Drill and Rifle teams.

    To support students’ readiness for college, Halsey Health & Public Safety Academy offers the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, which features specialized academic support and preparation for college entrance and university study. Students are encouraged to participate in challenging academic courses to develop the knowledge and skills needed for college-level study.
