    The Alexander Hamilton Preparatory Academy has a rigorous curriculum with the philosophies of the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID). AVID is a research- based instructional model that encourages students to prepare for and participate in

    a challenging college preparatory curriculum. AVID system is the driving force behind our students’ preparation for college. Each student is enrolled in a full-year AVID elective class for each of the four years of his/her high school career. The AVID elective classes focus on a number of core instructional strategies, providing uniformity and continuity to the students’ learning experiences. These strategies, which include Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Research (WICOR), Costa’s Levels of Inquiry and Questioning, Cornell Note-Taking System and organizational skills are constantly reinforced in the AVID elective classes as well as practiced daily in each content area class.

    Hamilton also offers College Board approved Advanced Placement courses in English Literature and Composition, English Language, Biology, Chemistry w/Lab, Environmental Science, Art History, Studio Art, Calculus, Human Geography, U.S. History, U.S. Government/Politics, Macro Economics, Micro Economics, Spanish Language and Spanish Literature. Students are also encouraged to take one of our many honors classes, which include Geometry, Algebra II, Pre- Calculus, English I and II, Biology, Chemistry and World History/Cultures.

    Alexander Hamilton Preparatory Academy selects students with a grade point average of 2.0 or higher, who demonstrate academic potential and are committed to preparing for post-secondary education. Students will comply with a rigorous academic course sequence during their four years of high school.

    Hamilton Academy also offers clubs and organizations that allow students to grow socially and emotionally: Student Government, Yearbook Club, Freshman Club, Sophomore Club, Junior Club, Senior Club, AVID Leadership Club, AVID Reader (Hamiltonian Newspaper Club), Character Club, Performing Arts Appreciation Club, National Honor Society, Creative Arts Club, Multicultural Club, New Jersey Future Educators Association, Key Club and Interact Club. Our students participate in the district’s sports teams, such as football, soccer, basketball, baseball, swimming, tennis, bowling, golf, track, girls’ rugby and volleyball.

    Alexander Hamilton Preparatory Academy ranked amongst the top high schools throughout the United States as part of the 2018 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings. Schools receiving national rankings from U.S. News were designated with gold, silver, and bronze medals. Alexander Hamilton Preparatory Academy received a gold medal for ranking No. 414 which is designated for schools ranked one through 500 nationally.

    Alexander Hamilton Preparatory Academy also offers Tomorrow’s Teachers, an elective course for students who aspire to become teachers. The program includes four themes: Experiencing Learning, Experiencing the Profession, Experiencing the Classroom, and Experiencing Education. A variety of hands-on activities and a strong emphasis on observations, and field experiences are offered.

    Students will have a school issued laptop for their daily instruction. The combination of rigorous and relevant Honors and Advanced Placement courses, a variety of elective subjects, and the philosophy of the AVID program give students the opportunity to excel in high school and attend college.
