On May 24, The Historical Society of Elizabeth conducted a forum on the city’s past and present in the Elizabeth Public Library. Halsey, Jr. Health and Public Safety Academy, and Thomas Jefferson Arts Academy participated in a discussion focused on Elizabeth in both 1917 and 2017, comparing what life was like during these two periods of time, including the concept of community, the impact of immigrants and of World War I on the community’s function and day-to-day living, and the process of civic engagement within the city shaping the development of local civic organizations.
