• Dear George Washington Academy School No. 1 Community,

We are proud to announce our school’s nominees for the Governor’s Educator of the Year Program.  This award highlights educational innovation, student achievement, exemplary teaching, and important services outside the classroom environment that lead to student success.  This celebratory program recognizes our state’s best teachers and educational services professionals who will be recognized at the Union County Office of Education.

We are proud to announce that the 2016 Governor’s Teacher of the Year for George Washington Academy School No. 1 was awarded to Mr. Christopher Adamcik.

Mr. Adamcik has served students in the Elizabeth Public Schools since 2011 as a fifth grade teacher.  He currently teaches fifth grade math and science at George Washington Academy School No. 1.  Mr. Adamcik is a dedicated, hard-working, and conscientious teacher who sets high expectations for his students and pushes them to do their very best.  Over the past two years, Mr. Adamcik’s students have consistently performed at the top of the district on both unit and district-wide math benchmark assessments.  Mr. Adamcik’s success can be attributed to his classroom culture of collaboration and friendly competition among students, as well as his use of formative assessment to identify student strengths and weaknesses and plan instruction.  Mr. Adamcik’s recent success clearly demonstrates that GWA students can learn and achieve at high levels.

We are proud to announce that the 2016 Governor’s Educational Service Provider of the Year for George Washington Academy School No. 1 was awarded to Mrs. Fern Perez.

Mrs. Perez has served students of the Elizabeth Public Schools as a classroom assistant, personal assistant, and paraprofessional since 1991.  Mrs. Perez is a dedicated, caring professional who takes on many roles at GWA.  Mrs. Perez’s primary responsibilities include providing individualized academic and social/emotional support to students.  In addition, she is a certified American Red Cross Instructor/Trainer and serves on our AED response team.  Mrs. Perez is instrumental in our fundraising efforts, and supervises the book fair, pretzel sale, and holiday boutique.  Her vibrant and outgoing personality greatly contribute to the positive culture at GWA.  Mrs. Perez’s service and loyalty to our school and the surrounding neighborhood extend beyond the school day.  For the past fourteen years, Mrs. Perez has served as a lifeguard at GWA’s Community Program during the evenings.  Mrs. Perez’s dedication and commitment to George Washington Academy School No. 1 make her a most worthy recipient of this award.
