Autism Awareness Night at the Ballpark
On Saturday April 20th, the Elizabeth High School Baseball team partnered up with the Elizabeth Parent Support Group to host the first ever Autism Awareness Night at the Ballpark.
Prior to the game against rival Linden, the Minutemen, alongside Mayor Chris Bollwage, Councilman Carlos Torres, Board of Education Commissioner Iliana Chevres and Supervisor of Athletics Marthelly Luc held a pre-game ceremony with our EPSG guests of honor who threw out the first pitch!
After a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem performed by Elizabeth's own Kwao Taylor, it was time to PLAY BALL!
Elizabeth won the game 10-0 with a masterful pitching performance from Yadi Mateo, who threw a complete game one hitter, earning him Player of the Game honors.
The Minutemen improved to 7-2 on the year under first year Head Coach Kristian Cortizo. When asked about the event the Elizabeth Native had this to say "Baseball is more than just a game. It's an opportunity to bring the community together and rally for a great cause. When I accepted this position, my goal was to find ways to give back to our community who has always been so supportive of our kids. It's the Elizabeth Way!"
The Minutemen are back in action this week with games against Union, St Thomas Aquinas, Oratory and Franklin. Come out and show your support!
