The June 14 Elizabeth Board of Education meeting at Dr. Orlando Edreira Academy School No. 26 @ 31 opened with a moment of silence for the passing of Welcome Center Pool Maintenance and Utility Person Fernando Fajardo and retired Thomas A. Edison Career & Technical Academy Custodian Isabel Rodriguez.
Prior to the official start of the meeting, a dinner was held in honor of the 2022-2023 Governor’s Educators of the Year Program awards recipients from Elizabeth Public Schools. The Board recognized the Teacher of the Year and Educational Services Professional of the Year from each of Elizabeth’s 37 district schools for their outstanding dedication and commitment to excellence. A principal or vice principal from each of the schools was also in attendance to celebrate and honor their buildings honorees. The Board also presented resolutions to each of the seven Student Representatives to the Board during the 2022-2023 school year. A senior representative from each of the district’s high schools with a senior class served as a non-voting member of the Board during the school year. They were able to participate in all deliberations, including updating the Board on school activities and student concerns.
Dr. Orlando Edreira Academy School No. 26 @ 31 Jazz Band members Rachael Adzakro, Khloe Bailey, Brandon Fiusa, Eileen Gutierrez, Jannah Mabry, Alejandro Mena, Alexandra Pena, Bayron Reyes, and Bianca Souza provided musical accompaniment to the evening’s festivities.
