Autism Acceptance Celebration at Mattano Park

Elizabeth Public Schools joined the Union County Board of County Commissioners, the Union County Department of Human Services, Prevention Links, and the Elizabeth Parent Support Group on April 20 at Mattano Park in Elizabeth to celebrate Autism Acceptance Month at the county commissioners’ annual event. Participants were encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero and were treated to a live DJ, food, games, and fun for the whole family.

Among those who were celebrating the unique personalities of our youth affected by autism and offering their support to them and their families were Union County Commissioners Chairwoman Kimberly Palmieri-Mouded and UC Commissioner Sergio Granados; Elizabeth Board of Education President Charlene Bathelus Dorgely and EBOE members Diane Barbosa, Maria Carvalho, and Iliana Chevres; EPS Superintendent Olga Hugelmeyer, Director of Special Services Michael Ojeda, and several members of the EPS Division of Special Services and district schools.
