Letter to School 4 families- Relocation of Students Due to Required Building Repairs- 5-19-22

Dear Parents/Guardians,
The safety and wellbeing of all members of the Elizabeth Public Schools learning community is our top priority.
At a recent routine inspection of Joseph Battin School No. 4, the school building’s roof was found to be experiencing the beginning process of fatigue of structural integrity. The determination during the initial inspection was confirmed by the City of Elizabeth’s building inspector, resulting in an evacuation order.
As a result, the district has developed a contingency plan to continue providing in-person schooling to the students of School No. 4 at multiple district school facilities for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year. We have identified three district school facilities to house the students of School No. 4, including JVJ STEM Academy, Benedictine Academy, and Dr. Albert Einstein School No. 29.
The school day will operate for School No. 4 students at their designated schools as regularly scheduled.
Transportation will be provided for students who will be attending school at Benedictine Academy and School No. 29. Food services will be provided and after school programs will continue to be offered at each of the three sites.
In preparation for students to be accommodated at these other school locations, school is closed for School No. 4 students on Thursday, May 19 and Friday, May 20. School will resume for School No. 4 students on Monday, May 23. Please refer to the chart with the assigned locations.
Due to the state regulation of all students attending school each year for 180 days, school will be in session for students and team members of School No. 4 on Tuesday, June 7 and Friday, June 17.
We apologize for any inconveniences and thank you for your understanding and support as we work to accommodate the students and team members of School No. 4 in the best way possible as we conclude the 2021-2022 school year.
