High School Freshmen Information Sessions

March 4th Thomas A. Edison Career and Technical No.87 @ 7pm

The Thomas Jefferson Arts Academy is committed to inspiring all students to achieve academic and creative excellence. Students complete a rigorous college preparatory curriculum as well as in-depth study in the visual, performing, and media arts. Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered beginning in ninth grade and students use a school-issued laptop for daily instruction.

Thomas A. Edison Career and Technical No.87 - March 4th @ 7pm

The Thomas A. Edison Career and Technical Academy’s programs are designed to provide a high degree of academic rigor as well as prepare students to learn a skilled trade. In addition to coursework in their chosen field of study, students will complete a rigorous college preparatory curriculum that includes classes in English, mathematics, science, social studies, and world languages. Honors and Advanced Placement courses will be offered to all interested students. Students are required to take a full course schedule and will have a school issued laptop for their daily instruction which provides access to various online learning platforms such as Unified Classroom, Microsoft Teams, MyAccess, Khan Academy, Carnegie Learning and IXL.

Admiral William F. Halsey, Jr. Health and Public Safety Academy No.83 - March 9th @ 7pm

Students enrolled in the Admiral William F. Halsey, Jr. Health & Public Safety Academy, in addition to completing a rigorous college preparatory program, will also participate in exciting programs, electives, classes, and activities that focus on the development of each student into a skilled, vibrant, contributing member of their community. Opportunities for learning through active participation in the community will be emphasized. Honors, Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Enrollment classes will be offered to all interested students. Students enrolled in the academy are required to take a full course schedule and will have a school issued laptop for their daily instruction.

J. Christian Bollwage Academy of Finance No.90 - March 10th @ 7pm

Christian Bollwage Finance Academy is a NAF Be Future Ready Distinguished college and career preparation program that integrates the theme of business and finance into an academically rich Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) instructional course sequence. This unique course of study will allow students to participate in work-based learning experiences in and out of the classroom including exposure to corporations through on-site visits, corporate tours, and presentations. Students will participate in job shadowing, team and work management, project collaboration and management, analysis of industry trends, and mentoring as well as learning from industry professionals.

Alexander Hamilton Preparatory Academy No.80 -  March 11th @ 7pm

The Alexander Hamilton Preparatory Academy has a rigorous curriculum with the philosophies of the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID). AVID is a research-based instructional model that encourages students to prepare for and participate in a challenging college preparatory curriculum. AVID system is the driving force behind our students’ preparation for college. Each student is enrolled in a full-year AVID elective class for each of the four years of his/her high school career. The AVID elective classes focus on a number of core instructional strategies, providing uniformity and continuity to the students’ learning experiences. These strategies, which include Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Research (WICOR), Costa’s Levels of Inquiry and Questioning, Cornell Note-Taking System and organizational skills are constantly reinforced in the AVID elective classes as well as practiced daily in each content area class.

John E. Dwyer Technology Academy No.82 - March 15th @ 7pm

Students enrolled in the John E. Dwyer Technology Academy ( JEDTA), in addition to completing a rigorous college preparatory program, will also be given the opportunity to explore careers in areas such as computer science, architectural design, and engineering. Honors and Advanced Placement classes will be offered to all interested students. Students enrolled in JEDTA have a school issued laptop for their daily instruction. JEDTA is interested in strengthening student’s bonds through a variety of unique clubs, including: Peer Leadership, Girls Who Code, Multicultural Club, Haitian Club, Environmental Club, Gaming Club, Yearbook Club, Student Government, Digital Video Club, and Prism, the Gay-Straight Alliance Club. Aside from clubs, students are encouraged to apply to be a member of one of our many Honor Societies: National Mathematics Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Social Studies Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society, National Honor Society, Portuguese and Spanish Honor Society, National Art Honor Society.

Elizabeth High School Frank J. Cicarell Academy No.89 -  March 16 @ 7pm

Students attending Elizabeth High School Frank J. Cicarell Academywill comply with a rigorous college preparatory course sequence which includes: four years of English, four years of mathematics, four years of science, four years of social studies (including economics), and three years of world language. All students will enroll in honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses and are required to take the AP exams. Elizabeth High School Frank J. Cicarell Academy is an AP Capstone school. Students will have the opportunity to receive a high school diploma endorsed by the College Board enhancing their college application credentials. Students are required to take a full course schedule and will have a school issued laptop for their daily instruction.

Stem Academy - March 2nd @ 7pm

Students enrolled in the STEM Academy, in addition to completing a rigorous college preparatory program, will also be given the opportunity to explore careers in areas such as computer science, biomedical sciences, pharmacy and engineering. The school program will also guide the participating students in pioneering the ways and means by which to integrate STEM principles (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)into the world we live in. Honors and AP classes will be offered to all interested students.  All STEM Academy students will be expected to comply with the rules, regulations, and policies of the Academy and the school district.
