Elizabeth Public Schools team members were outside of schools in the morning to give students and families a warm greeting as they entered each of our district schools.

Elizabeth Board of Education President Jerry Jacobs, along with Board members Diane Barbosa, Charlene Bathelus and Iliana Chevres, visited several district schools to welcome and congratulate students and team members for their return to school, including George Washington Academy School No. 1, Winfield Scott School No. 2, Jerome Dunn Academy School No. 9, Elmora No. 12, Abraham Lincoln School No. 14, Madison – Monroe School No. 16, Woodrow Wilson School No. 19, and Chessie Dentley Roberts Academy School No. 30.

 

Among the highlights of the start to the 2021-2022 school year is the opening of the district’s eighth high school, the Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson STEM Academy, which will provide students the opportunity to participate in hands-on real world activities integral to their chosen career paths in areas such as computer science, biomedical sciences, engineering, and pharmacy while guiding them in pioneering the ways and means by which to apply STEM principles into all aspects of the world in which we live.

 

Also new to the Elizabeth Public Schools are three educational spaces the district has acquired to address increased enrollment. Over the summer, the district entered into lease agreements with the Newark Archdiocese to use school spaces at Our Lady of Fatima, located at 943 Bond Street, as an annex for Nicholas S. LaCorte – Peterstown School No. 3 and the former St. Genevieve’s School, located at 209 Princeton Road, as an annex for ninth grade students of Elizabeth High School – Frank J. Cicarell Academy. Most recently, the district purchased the former Benedictine Academy, located at a Catholic high school located at 824-864 North Broad St., which officially closed after the 2019-2020 school year. The school space is currently planned for serving special needs students that are in self-contained classrooms and eventually a bilingual magnet program.
