Board Meeting November 22, 2022
At the November 22 Elizabeth Board of Education meeting at Elizabeth High School – Frank J. Cicarell Academy, the Board held a moment of silence to start the meeting for the passing of Jerome Dunn Academy of Mathematics, Technology & the Arts School No. 9 custodian Sandra Ann Smith and retired Nicholas Murray Butler School No. 23 teacher Nancy Simon.
As part of its opening calendar, the Board recognized Alexander Hamilton Preparatory Academy senior Monika Flores as a student representative to the Board of Education. Flores, vice president of the school’s student government, was introduced to the audience by Hamilton Preparatory Academy principal George Mikros and was presented with a certificate and pin by the Board in honor of being selected to assume the responsibilities of this special role. Flores is president of the AVID leadership club, as well as a member of the STEP, GSA and Character clubs, all of which have developed skills and characteristics that make her an excellent student to represent Hamilton Preparatory Academy in this unique position.
In recognition of Veterans Day, the Board also recognized Elizabeth Public Schools team members who served, or continue to serve, in the Armed Forces, for their exceptional demonstration of the values of service, sacrifice and love of country. To commemorate this occasion, Elizabeth Public Schools has created a Wall of Honor on the district’s website to recognize their outstanding service to our nation. A profile for each of the honorees can be found at www.epsnj.org/wallofhonor.
