Elizabeth Public Schools and Be the Change help over 100 families with a Thanksgiving Basket

Elizabeth Public Schools and Be the Change help over 100 families with a Thanksgiving basket.

Elizabeth Public Schools has had the pleasure of working with Be the Change to help over 100 families in the area to have a wonderful holiday meal. Over the last several days, Be the Change and EPS members have been delivering Thanksgiving baskets into the hands of families to make this holiday special. The holidays are stressful, but for families experiencing food insecurity, the pressure to provide a Thanksgiving dinner can be overwhelming or impossible.

Over 33 million Americans lived in food-insecure households last year, with 8.6 million adults living in very low food security households, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition data. According to the agency, food-insecure households are defined as households that are "uncertain of having or unable to acquire enough food to meet the needs of all their members because they had insufficient money or other resources for food."

Be the Change is a non-profit Program dedicated to community service and activist projects that help promote peace and non-violence in urban neighborhoods. Be the Change staff is completely volunteer, and every penny collected goes into the community for program activities like providing for resources for the homeless, creating and distributing food pantry stables, creating peace gardens from abandoned lots, addressing urban food deserts utilizing vertical gardens to grow food, creating safe spaces for youth, young women empowerment programs and so much more.
