EPL Barter and Trade Discussion
On May 23, 2019, students from Halsey Academy, Dwyer Academy, Jefferson Academy, Elizabeth High School, Winfield Scott School No. 2 and Joseph Battin School No. 4 attended the Elizabeth Forum, held at the Elizabeth Public Library. The Forum, sponsored by the Elizabeth Historical Society and Future Cities, focused on the history of Elizabeth through the framework of bartering and monetary transactions. The topic allowed students to explore how people cooperated and survived in colonial times and ended with an exploration of modern bartering in our society. Moderated by Stanley Neron, Elizabeth School Board Commissioner, students from the six schools were able to interact with the Mayor of Elizabeth, J. Christian Bollwage, President of the Elizabeth Historical Society, Ken Ward, and others about Elizabeth’s past, present and future in a very informative and lively exchange.
