Learning and Language Disabilities Severe (LLDs) Program
The self-contained Language and Learning Disabilities (LLDs) program is designed for students who are performing significantly below grade level in core academic areas. These students benefit from individualized instruction delivered in a classroom with a lower student-to-teacher ratio, which allows for targeted support and greater attention to individual learning needs.
Academic instruction in the LLDs classes encompasses all major curricular areas, including mathematics, reading and language arts, social studies, science, and health. General education texts and materials are used whenever appropriate, but are supplemented or replaced with resources tailored to address the unique educational requirements of each student. Instruction is differentiated and employs a multi-sensory approach to ensure that content is accessible and meaningful for diverse learners.
In addition to academic learning, the program places a strong emphasis on the reinforcement and modeling of appropriate social and pragmatic behaviors. Throughout the school day, students receive consistent guidance in developing positive interaction skills.
Instruction is provided by a certified special education teacher, who delivers lessons through individualized and small-group formats. Students are also given opportunities to participate in the general education environment to the maximum extent possible, based on their individual needs and readiness.
