Autism Program

The Autism Program is designed to support students with autism and related disabilities in reaching their full potential by fostering academic, social, communication, and functional skills essential for success across different environments. The program utilizes a structured, evidence-based approach rooted in applied behavior management principles.

Students in the Autism Program benefit from a range of instructional methods, including discrete trial training, sensory integration techniques, and visual supports. These strategies are employed to reinforce learning and encourage independence among students. The program is further strengthened by ongoing consultation with Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), who assist in enhancing social skills, minimizing inappropriate behaviors, and creating individualized motivation systems to promote engagement and achievement.

Instruction within the Autism Program is continually informed by data collection and progress monitoring, which ensures that teaching strategies remain responsive to each learner’s evolving needs. Supports are personalized based on individual student strengths, needs, and IEP goals, allowing for instruction that is appropriately tailored to each student.

Skills are introduced through a progressive model that advances from simple to more complex tasks using task analysis and chaining techniques. The program also emphasizes the development of pragmatic language skills and focuses on functional, real-world abilities that help students achieve independence in school, home, and community settings.

The Autism Program maintains a 3:1 student-to-staff ratio, providing highly individualized instruction in a small, supportive classroom environment. All program practices adhere to the Division of Special Services’ guidelines, ensuring consistent and high-quality support for all students.
